Peonies: Peonies are an incredibly beautiful flower, with a petal shape that's distinct from other flowers. They're also one of the most popular flower varieties in San Diego. Peonies are a member of the Paeoniaceae family and are native to China. They grow on thick stems with large leaves and usually have one to three flowers per stem. The flowers can range from pure white to deep purple and even pinkish-red shades. The center of each flower has five petals (like most flowers) that form a star shape—but peony petals are larger than those of other flowers. Peonies typically grow between two and three feet tall, but they can also come in dwarf varieties if you don't have room for full-sized plants.
